Health Care

Health Aid Program

According to WHO’s health profile for Nepal, for every 10,000 population there are only 5.9% physicians and 15.3% nurses and midwives available.

We have grown up learning that ‘Health is Wealth’ and it is high time this life-lesson reached the nooks and crannies of Nepal. While education is one medium through which we can aware the demographic about the necessity of health care, not everyone has easy access to health care service. Rural health care services in Nepal are rudimentary, with lack of proper infrastructure, lack of medical supplies, lack of staffs and costly facility upon availability. Marginalized communities in Nepal are stripped of health facilities, leading to astounding number of death by preventable diseases.

BHH is striving to create measures and tackle issues regarding health issues in rural Nepal. While establishing a permanent health post may seem like the easy and most convenient option, to achieve it isn’t that easy. With lack of facilities, staff and health workers, the idea is easier said than done. BHH’s main aim is to educate and aware the people in rural Nepal about preventable diseases. Awareness on diseases like HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Malaria and the likes are also on the task list of BHH Health Program. To teach the population about healthy living, hygiene and sanitation can make a lot of difference in the health aspect of these people. The main motive of BHH Health Program is to aware and educate people about preventable diseases and periodically serve them with health camps. Such regular health camps can make access to health facilities easier for the rural population and assist them with needful check-ups, medication and health education. The bigger vision of course is to provide localities with permanent health facilities that can assist with medical emergencies.

BHH is a fine opportunity for volunteers who are health professionals, medical students or public health students. The placement allows you to work closely with and in guidance of health workers in local health care centers across Nepal. It is a great opportunity to learn and get experience in the professional arena. There are many facets to this particular placement: empowering communities through health, hygiene and sanitation education, teaching waste management practices, hands on experience by providing public health and medical care and more.

If you are a medical student or a health worker, you can volunteer with us in this program. You can also help us by making a donation, which will be used to buy medical equipments and medications.
