About us

Basundhara Helping Hands (BHH) is one of around 6,000 NGOs recognized by the Nepal Government that works for the empowerment and development of Nepali communities and its people. BHH directly works with children and strives for their better education and quality living. BHH also mobilizes volunteers, both local and international, to empower and develop marginalized communities in Nepal.

Established in the year 2014, we are a non-profit, non-religious, non-political and non-governmental organization that believes that it takes a person to help another. We believe in a personal relationship in everything we do. So, whether it is a school we are renovating or a volunteer we are recruiting, we like to understand each other better and be comfortable enough before we help on another. BHH also believes that it is important to start development work from the grass root level. We are officially registered under Society Act with the District Administration Office, Kathmandu (Reg. No. 347).

On the whole, BHH is an organization that is dedicated to the welfare of Nepali children. We work to provide them quality education, health, quality living standard and love. Development is at the crux of our organization and we plan to achieve it through education, child care, health care, agriculture and infrastructure development, youth empowerment and opportunities for entrepreneurship and employment. We are equally determined to work with volunteers to empower local disadvantaged and marginalized communities via different programs and trainings.

Our Story

Assigned to renovate a school located in rural Nepal, a group of engineers were dumbfounded to find a dilapidated building instead of a proper school. The school building was crumbling to dust with barely standing walls. Their blackboards had turned white from not being painted and the place lacked basic amenities such as drinking water or usable toilets. The entire school, its structure and system was in haywire. There were hardly any students and those who were present were out of books and stationery materials. With the infrastructure of education caught in a fiasco, the future of the young students was lost. In that moment we knew that we have to be responsible for a brighter future of the children. We decided on establishing an organization that would work towards helping children get quality education, scholarship opportunities, better living standards, health care and support. And Basundhara Helping Hands (BHH) was formed.

Mission

Basundhara Helping Hands (BHH) has children welfare at its heart. Our primary mission is to give marginalized, uncared for and, orphan children quality life, education, health benefits, love, care and support. We are also involved in the empowerment of marginalized communities in and around Kathmandu. The mission is to provide quality education, health and sanitation awareness, improve their income generating skills via training and programs, developing basic infrastructure and encouraging youths to develop these communities and promote equality, economic growth and human rights. And to do that we ask the help and assistance of volunteers, both local and international; because clearly we cannot do this all on our own.
